About

Hey all! I’m Jonathan from Arizona. I like traveling and I hate shoes 🙂1002426_10151492215273951_376892697_nWHO AM I:

First off, my name is Jonathan and let me say this, “I am NOT a nomad.” It is an awesome life, but too full of unknowns for me ;P. I travel while living and working somewhere for a long period of time. Where am I right now? At the moment, I’m living in a super rural mountain village in Japan and teaching English.

There are so many ways to travel and being a globetrotting nomad is not the only one (it may be the most intense though haha). Whatever I may be doing in the world, whether it is teaching, working 9-5 or vacationing, I intend to travel and share my stories here with all of you.

Mainly, I’ll share my three interests with you: history/architecture, politics & people, and parties. Yes, to me that counts as three.

WHY BAREFOOT GLOBAL: I chose barefootglobal because to me it represents going anywhere in the world and literally dipping your feet into it. Diving straight into a new location or experience and rolling with the punches.

Plus, I really don’t like wearing shoes…no scratch that, I DESPISE shoes and choose to wear Vibram 5 Fingers if I can’t go with sandals 🙂

My Interests:

1. History/Architecture – That’s right, I was that kid in class reading through those dusty old library books and learning about the Silk Road or why the Vatican chose to set up shop in Rome. There’s a saying that, “history repeats itself.”  While I may not believe that entirely, I do think history defines our world today (…obviously). When I travel now, I learn as much as I can about the areas I’m visiting. It makes it that much more fun for me. My goal with this blog is to share that history with you all and help you understand some of the weird stories and cultural traditions we here about elsewhere in the world. Often times it has to do with my second interest.

2. Politics & People –  I love people. It sounds super cheesy but everybody has a unique story and I want to know it! Maybe its because I’m a product of Generation Y and the information age but I think everything is worth telling. As a result, I’m going to tell you all about the people I meet while traveling and the lives they live.

In addition, I love politics. I think politics deeply impact countries (obviously :p) and shape our lives and societies. Have you ever wondered why everybody says Germans don’t have a sense of humor, or Americans are all really loud, or Australians are super apathetic? Well those stereotypes are born because of the habits people adopt from living within certain societies and political realities. That being said, some politics and politicians say and do crazy things. So I’m going to tell you about those too :).

3. Parties – Speaking of crazy, let’s get down to my third interest: parties. I love them, who doesn’t? It doesn’t matter if you are partying in a club with 2000 people, relaxing at some old cultural festival with the family, or even having a drink with a few friends; partying is a universal bond. While I travel I’m going to be taking you to the places I go to party and meet new people. From drinking sake with the Governor of Nara, Japan, to all night sushi parties, and even religious mountain burning festivals. We are going to do it all!

Having said all of this, I mainly want to encourage people to travel. I want you to experience what I’ve seen and more. The more people expose themselves to foreign ideas and people, the closer we can get to understanding each other. Come with me and work towards that idea.

(Yes…I’m an idealist haha)

  2. I know we’ve corresponded a bit this past few days, but here’s a message from Türkiye to say “thank you” Jon. I appreciate your recent ‘follow’ Jon, knowing how many interesting and entertaining blogs there are out there.

Blogging since June 2013, my little corner of the world tries to offer an eclectic smattering of posts, from basic amateur photography, to sharing my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day-to-day happenings here on our fruit farm in southern Turkey. I also throw in a few of my observations on life and lighter-hearted stuff for good measure.

You are more than welcome to have a look around, stay a while and have a trawl through my collection. There are plenty of categories within the drop-down menus to help in said digging process. Of course, if you have any comments, suggestions or concerns, feel free to let me know – I’m not easily offended 🙂

Hope you have a great day…

    • Thanks! That sounds great. I’ll totally surf around through your site. You’ve got to have some awesome stories and I’d love to get some amateur photography tips. I’m just getting into the field myself now that I’ve moved to Japan and blogging. I’m there! Thanks for reaching out, Spike!
